Are you a successful and well-rounded individual, but are lacking spiritual fulfillment in your life? Do you consider yourself to be Christian, and grew up Catholic, but your family never really practiced? And, maybe they did. But, as an adult, you have become totally withdrawn from the Church? Have you experienced trials and tribulations and have sought out answers except for the Faith? But, you would like to learn more to see if the Catholic faith is a path you'd like to consider?
If this is you? You are in the right place. I want to encourage you to take time to explore your Catholic Christian Faith. I want to remind you that you are a loved, valued and an integral part of the Catholic Church Family founded by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. And, there is nothing he wants more than to welcome you home.
Hi, I am Cathy Jo Lang, daughter of The One True King. And, I am excited to welcome you to “The Unplanned Joyful Life” podcast. I am a practicing Catholic who recommitted to my Catholic Christian faith after experiencing a mental health crisis over 30 years ago. I suffered a severe postpartum depression that required a 3 week hospitalization and caused me to be away from my newborn baby at a time that he needed me the most.
When recovering from the depression, I searched for any and all help to deal with the guilt, shame and condemnation this experience brought. And, in order to decrease my chances of going through another mental health crisis, I decided to search, understand and embrace my Catholic Christian Faith. And, it was there, that I experienced complete healing, wholeness and transformation, never to suffer a depression again.
Through our Catholic faith, Jesus became the firm foundation on which my husband, Steve and I were able to build a beautiful family, full of love, life and purpose for our children and grandchildren.
And, although I would like to say to that we never experienced a trial or tribulation since. In 2019, we suffered the tragic lost our beautiful son Michael Robert at the age of 26. Michael suffered from a rare and chronic health condition without a sufficient medical diagnosis. This illness caused him chronic pain, fatigue, and isolation amongst many other symptoms, too many to mention. And, although his passing was devastating, we were able to receive God's healing, grace and provision through the mourning and grief we suffered as a family.
I never thought I could get through the loss of a child. And, I don't wish that hardship on anyone. But, because of our Catholic Christian Faith, Steve, myself and our other two children, Stephen and Elizabeth were able to lean on, trust in and practice the one true faith, Catholicism. And, although it took the love, provision and healing power of God, as well as the support of our family and friends, we were able to experience peace, hope and love in the midst of tragedy. We know that Michael is with Jesus. And, we look forward to the day that we will meet and embrace him again in our Heavenly Home.
Besides being wife, mom and grandmother, I am a Certified Professional Life Coach, Public Speaker and Podcast Host of The Unplanned Joyful Life.
I grew up in a loving but alcoholic and dysfunctional family. After going to group counseling with my family at the direction of our parents, I felt hope and excitement for the idea that change is possible. I saw my parents make significant transformation over time in order to bring health and wellness back to our family. And, I've been on a mission to live my best life ever since.
In this podcast, I’ll provide valuable insights to help you delve into the Catholic Faith, bring better understanding to the Church, it's practices and the benefits you will receive when practicing it on a regular basis. All this will help you become the best version of yourself. I will share “tried-and-true” tips and tricks for creating a God-centered home for you and your family. You will hear real-life examples of how to incorporate Catholic Christian values, Regular Self-Care, and Community Involvement in order to bring confidence, stability, and joy back into your life.
So, If you want to understand and embrace your Catholic faith, foster healthy relationships, and pursue goals and dreams that ignite your spirit, I’ll be here to support you every step of the way. You will hear from other Catholic Christians as they share their personal journey of faith, as well as professionals who will share their area of expertise with you.
Together, we’ll grow in knowledge, faith and grace to help you navigate “The Unplanned Joyful Life” with happiness and purpose!

⭐️ Today's Topic: Receiving Signs and Confirmations VS Seeking Divinity Outside of our Catholic Christian Faith.
The First Commandment: You Shall Have No Other Gods Besides Me.
What The Catholic Catechism says about Mediums and Divination (CCC 2116):
"The catechism rejects all recourse to Satan, demons, or mediums. Practices like using horoscopes, astrology, palm reading, or Ouija boards are considered grave offenses against the First Commandment because they attempt to unveil the future and tame occult powers. [1, 2]."
1. Do not search for signs, confirmations, readings or answers in divinity such as psychics, mediums, tarot card readers, horoscopes or calling on the dead.
2. Although it seems innocent, you can put yourself, your soul and others in grave danger- spiritually speaking.
3. The adversary is a liar and a manipulator. What might seem harmless, innocent or even give you a sense of power and/or control, can put you and your soul n a place of danger. At the worst, Demonic possession or spiritual attachment can occur.
4. When I delved more into looking for and working toward receiving signs and messages in the past, I experienced an unsettled preoccupation, high energy followed by depletion and a feeling of having my feet off the ground.
5. I learned that by practicing my faith and putting my trust in Jesus, it helped me to focus my energy more productively. Then, when I least expected it, God reveals himself to me in the ways he sees fit: and they are the most beautiful, meaningful and authentic ways.
6.Use your energy to grow your faith through Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Learn to trust him in all things. If He sees fit, you will receive signs and confirmations that he intended for you. Not those conjured up by yourself and others.

⭐️ Today's Topic: Transformation without perfection: The Challenge for Catholic Christians.
10 ways to deal with our imperfections while working toward Transformation in Christ:
1. Learn to accept Imperfection in yourself and others. This might be the hardest one. But as we go through the list, it might get easier.
2. Put your faith in Jesus. Get to know him. Who does he say he is? Who does he say that you are? Does he demand perfection?
3. Trust that God sees our hearts. Our and others’ expectations on us may create confusion and insecurity. But when we stay in communion with the Holy Spirit, and do our best, we can grow in faith, grace and confidence.
4. Acknowledge that God provides us with grace and choose to receive it. When I was a young mother and felt broken and insecure over past mistakes, I relied on God’s grace to cover my sin and help me be the best mom that I could be. I trusted him to fill the gaps and create a life of peace, love and hope.
5. Wear Christ’s Robe of Righteousness. Jesus died on the cross for our sins for a reason. He wants to fill us with his spirit and heal our brokenness. Let him.
6. Use the sacraments to seek forgiveness, healing and wholeness through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ..
7. Practice our Catholic Christian Faith regularly. It is like water for our thirsty soul, and satisfaction even when we feel like we are not enough..
8. Focus less on ourselves and more on Jesus. To know Jesus is to be satisfied.
9. Realize and accept that both the mountains AND the valleys are temporary.
10. Remember that Heaven is our ultimate goal and destination. It is where we will meet Jesus Face to face.

What is Salvation? 5 Ways God’s Power is made Perfect in Weakness.
A simple definition of Salvation from Merriam Webster Dictionary is the deliverance from the power and effects of sin.
2 Corinthians 2:9
“But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weakness, so that Christ’d power may rest on me.”
5 Ways God’s Power is made Perfect in Weakness.
1. We can turn to him in the Low Points:
Turn to Christ when we have no where else to go- and we will experience his grace.
2. We can turn to him in our Humility:
This keeps us close to Christ. We are made low in order to grow.
3. We can turn to him in our Sadness:
Christ can comfort us in ways no-one else can.
4. We can turn to him in our Brokenness: He can make us whole with the sacrifice of his body and blood in the Eucharist.
5. We can turn to him in our Loneliness: We are never alone when we are in Christ. He is our Bridegroom. And he can, and will care for all our needs.

God-Centered? 10 Ways that God uses it all!
Romans 8:28 NIV
“And, we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose”.
I like to say that God uses it all, the good, the bad and the ugly. 10 things God uses for our good and his glory. 1. God uses our gifts. Given to us from God for a purpose. They come from The Holy Spirit 2. God uses our skills. As we work at becoming better at something, skills we’ve learn and use help us to grow in confidence. 3. God uses our talents. I see talents as part gifts and part skill. He gifts us the ability to fine tune the gifts given in order to serve him better. 4. God uses our tragedies. In times of trials and tribulations we realize that we need God. Experiencing tragedies also helps us to empathize with others 5. God uses our triumphs. We glorify God when we overcome. This gives ourselves and others a sense of hope.6. God uses our brokenness.
We are humbled and made to be used for the sake of others. 7. God uses our willingness to seek him. Because of free will, we must choose to seek him. He doesn’t force himself on us or others. 8. God uses our openness to change. We were made for transformation in Christ. But we have to surrender and accept the work the Holy Spirit wants to do in us. 9. God uses our ability to love him. When we love Jesus, we are able to put things in perspective. 10. God uses our ability to forgive others. When we forgive others, we experience true forgiveness and healing ourselves.

⭐️ Today's episode: 6 Things to Consider when Choosing to Forgive
As Christians, we are called to forgive. And, there is a good reason for this. There is freedom and love on the other side of our act (or acts) to forgive. When we choose to forgive, we choose to not hold another to an offense. And, in doing so, we are not held to the offense either. The Bible says that when we hold others to their sin, we are held t o our sins. But, when we choose to forgive others, our Heavenly Father forgives us. Inside today's episode, I will share 6 things to consider when working to forgive another (or yourself).
6 things to consider when choosing to forgive: 1. Forgiveness is not easy, 2. Forgiveness often requires more than 1 act of choosing to forgive, 3. Forgiveness doesn’t always require us to verbally forgive the offender, 4. We Don’t Forgive Because the offender deserves it. We Forgive because it is what God calls us to do, 5. Forgiveness requires Spiritual work and/ or maturity, we need to separate forgiveness from approval, 6.Forgiveness requires evaluating relationships-not going back to “Business as Usual”
Bible says in Matthew 6:14-15
The New Catholic Bible
"4 If you forgive others for the wrongs they have done, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive others, then your Father will not forgive your transgressions.
